Ayşe Öncü

Emeritus Professor, Sabancı University

Ayse Öncü received her undergraduate degree from ODTU in Sociology, master’s degree from Bryn Mawr College, and doctorate from Yale University. She worked as a faculty member in the Sociology Department at Boğazici University. Between 2003-2011, she worked as a Professor in the Faculty of Social Sciences at Sabanci University. Öncü has published numerous articles in journals and books in Turkey and abroad. Öncü’s edited volumes include Developmentalism and Beyond: Society and Politics in Egypt and Turkey (Cairo and New York: Cairo University Press and Columbia University Press, 1999; with Saad Eddin Ibrahim and Çağlar Keyder), Turkey and the West: Changing Political and Cultural Identities (Londra: I:B: Tauris, 1993; with Metin Heper and Heinz Kremer).
