SU Gender will discuss “Feminist Solidarity” throughout March
Like every year, SU Gender will organize events and conferences spreading over the whole month of March on the occasion of the 8 March International Women’s Day. During the events to be held under the heading “#FeministSolidarity”, various approaches to gender will be discussed, and awareness-raising activities will be carried out about rights and inequalities.
The first SU Gender event, entitled “Feminist and Queer Solidarity Experiences in Ecology, Art and Organization” will take place on March 5 from 10.00 to 17.30. In this event, the ecology session will be attended by Bediz Yılmaz, Canan Bayoğlu, Olcay Bingöl, Refika Kadıoğlu, Sevil Baştürk & Süheyla Doğan, the art session by Aylin Vartanyan, Asena Günal, Deniz Artun, Gökçen Erkılıç, Meral Akkent & Sevim Sancaktar, and the organization session by Aslı Alpar, Filiz Ak, Hatice Demir, İlknur Üstün, Nadire Mater & Sevgi Uçan Çubukçu.
On March 8, a quiz entitled “Feminist Trivia” will be held on digital channels.
Curious Steps in Beyoğlu
In the framework of its events in March, SU Gender will hold “Curious Steps: Beyoğlu, on the track of Artist Women” in collaboration with Meşher Art Gallery. The physical gathering will take place on March 16, and the digital one on 22 March, and with a new perspective, participants will discover 10 different spots in Beyoğlu about 10 artist women whose story is told in the “I-You-They: A Century of Artist Women” exhibition in Meşher Gallery.
Among SU Gender’s events in March, “Encountering Steps:Digital Story Map Workshop”, implemented by Ezgi Öz and Selen Çatalyürekli, will be held on March 20 in Gazhane in collaboration with WOW Istanbul.
The #MeToo Movement will be discussed
Another event to take place in March is a chat session entitled “Feminist+ Solidarity” to be held on Wednesday, March 23 between 19.00 and 21.00. Facilitated by Ayşe Gül Altınay, the event will host Arlene Avakian, Cynthia Enloe, Deniz Kandiyoti, and Shaharzad Akbar as speakers.
A panel entitled “The #MeToo Effect: GeneratingAccountability through Collective Credibility” willtake place on Wednesday, March 30 between 18.00 and 19.30 and the panel will be facilitated by Hülya Adak, Director of SU Gender. The keynote speech of the panel will be delivered by Leigh Gilmore, an American scholar who has carried out special studies and written books about feminism, trauma and autobiography. This event will be held in the framework of the “Sexual Harassment, Gender-Based Violence and Discrimination: Research, Action, Narrativization” webinar series organized by SU Gender since 2020.
