Fatmagül Berktay is a Professor at Istanbul University Faculty of Political Sciences. She graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences and York University (UK). Berktay is also a charter member of Foundation of History (Tarih Vakfı) and board member in Foundation of Women's Library and Information Center (Kadın Eserleri Kütüphanesi); she has taught “Political Theory”, “History of Political Thought”, “Theory of Democracy”, “Contemporary Political Theory” in Faculty of Political Sciences, and “Feminist Theories” in Women’s Studies Department at Istanbul University. Berktay held other positions including Director of İstanbul UniversityWomen's Research and Education Centerand Chair of Board in Women's Library and Information Center, and represented Turkey in various international platforms.
Berktay's work Women in the Monotheistic Religions (Metis, 1996) has been published in Canada (BlackRose Books, 1998) with the title Women and Religion, and her book Gender of History (Metis,2003) has been published in Lebanon (Dar Kreideh, 2009) with the title El Huviyye en Nisaiyye ‘abr et Tarih. Her most recent two books are Call of Politics (Bilgi Üniversitesi Yayınları, 2010) and To Love the World Today –Hannah Arendt’s View of Politics (Metis, 2012), as she continues her work on "political ethics" and "political evil".
