Sabancı University Gender and Women's Studies Forum held a panel consisting of two sessions on Monday, April 9, 2012, at Karaköy Minerva Palas as part of the Joint Events of ATGender (The European Association for Gender Research, Education and Documentation) and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung.
In the session titled "Discussing the Gender and Women's Issue with Female Politicians" moderated by Assoc. Dr. Ayşe Betül Çelik, Faculty Member of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sabancı University, Azize Sibel Gönül, AK Party Deputy for Kocaeli & Chairperson of the Grand National Assembly Of Turkey - Committee on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men, Melda Onur, CHP Deputy for Istanbul, and Gültan Kışanak, BDP Co-Chair and Deputy for Siirt were the speakers, and Prof. Dr. Andrea Petö, Central European University Faculty Member and Co-Chair of ATGender joined as a debater.. In the first session, women's policies in Turkey and various social gender and women's issues were discussed with female politicians, where they exchanged their thoughts and ideas on solving women's problems and improvements.
Panel: Gender Studies in Europe and Turkey
The second session titled “Gender Studies in Europe and Turkey” was moderated by Ayşe Gül Altınay, Faculty Member of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Sabancı University. In the session, Prof. Dr. Andrea Petö, Co-Chair of ATGender and Central European University Faculty Member, and Assoc. Dr. Hülya Şimga Durudoğan, Koç University Faculty Member, were the speakers. They talked about what has been done in Turkey on gender and women's studies and the experience in this field. Prof. Dr. Andrea Petö gave information about the work of ATGender and the women's movement in Europe, the associations and their activities there.
