In cooperation with the Sabancı University Gender and Women's Studies Forum and the Women's Museum Istanbul, the International Symposium on Gender Equality in the Academia: Best Practices was held on November 6 to 8, 2014 in partnership with the Istanbul Policy Center.

The aim of the Symposium held in Istanbul was to celebrate the 100th anniversary of women's right to higher education in Turkey and to discuss the policies, programs and good practices developed to ensure gender equality in universities on an international platform. The opening speech of the symposium was given by Şirin Tekeli, a political scientist and one of the most important activists of the post-1980 feminist movement in Turkey. Speakers from universities in Germany, Austria, United States, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, Great Britain, Sweden, Italy and Turkey attended the symposium.

A workshop was held on the last day of the symposium with the objective to create a Policy Paper. Also, within the framework of the Symposium, the exhibition “100 Years of Women at the University - Women's University 1914 -1919” was available for viewing between November 7th and December 21st, 2014 at the Consulate General of Greece in İstanbul - Sismanoglio Megaro.
