ACCTING Project Specialist
Burcu Borhan Türeli works as a Project Specialist at Sabancı University Gender and Women's Studies Center of Excellence (SU Gender) for the EU Horizon 2020 project ACCTING (AdvanCing Behavioural Change Through an INclusive Green deal). She holds a BA in English Language and Literature (2004) and Translation Studies (2005) from Istanbul University with high honors. Awarded a Fulbright scholarship, she earned an MA in Interdisciplinary Studies (MAIS) with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies at George Mason University (GMU) in Virginia, USA (2009). Her graduate thesis analyzed the emergence of separate and gendered children's literature in Britain's late nineteenth and early twentieth-century Victorian era from a feminist perspective. She worked as a student assistant, a researcher, a language instructor, and an outreach specialist at the Sexual Assault Services at GMU and various national and international higher education offices and non-profit organizations. Her areas of interest are alternative education models, alternative forms of schooling; rural schools; rural transformation; gender and girls empowerment, agri-food relationships; food security, and climate justice.
