Feminist+ Solidarity in the Context of International Experiences
On March 23rd, four invited speakers all of whom have made groundbreaking contributions to feminist academia and politics, Arlene Avakian, Cynthia Enloe, Deniz Kandiyoti, and Shaharzad Akbar came together in an online event to discuss feminist+ solidarity. With Ayşe Gül Altınay as discussant, the speakers shared their thoughts around the following questions: What do we understand by feminist+ solidarity and how do we see its place in today's (feminist) politics? What are some examples of feminist+ solidarity that inspire us the most? How does solidarity – especially feminist+ solidarity – transform us personally and collectively? How do we see the future of practices around solidarity and the future of the concept itself? During the event, the participants contributed to the discussion by sharing their thoughts on feminist+ solidarity on an interactive digital platform. SU Gender organizes events and conferences spreading over the whole month of March on the occasion of the 8 March International Women’s Day, under the heading “#FeministSolidarity”. On March 5, we hosted three inspiring online roundtables on feminist solidarity initiatives in ecology, art and organizing.
Our next event in the series will be an online conversation on "Feminist+ Solidarity" with the participation of Arlene Avakian, Cynthia Enloe, Deniz Kandiyoti and Shaharzad Akbar, who have each made pathbreaking contributions to feminist scholarship and politics.
We are imagining this gathering as a dynamic roundtable organized around such questions as: What does "feminist+ solidarity" mean for us? How do we see its place in contemporary (feminist) politics? Which feminist+ solidarity practices have inspired us the most? How does solidarity transform us - personally and collectively? And how do we see the future of solidarity - as concept and practice?
