Sociologist Sevil Sümer, who has a chapter titled “Modern Kadınlar, Çatışan Talepler, Farklı Çözümler” in the book Yerli Bir Feminizme Doğru (2001), gave a speech titled “Gender, Women's Movement and Citizenship: An EU Project” at Karaköy Minerva Palas. Sevil Sümer currently works at the Department of Sociology at Bergen University. She shared with us the outputs and findings of her European Union project, in which she explored the gender stereotypes of citizenship, and what role women play as citizens and activists in influencing and changing inequalities and injustices.
