As SU Gender, we are organizing an international webinar series on sexual harassment, gender based violence, diversity and inclusion within and outside the university. In this series, we would like to share experiences with experts, researchers, and activists from different universities, research centers and NGOs, and learn from their expertise. This talk focuses on the disguised reproductive travels of Turkish citizens seeking donor gametes abroad which are legally unavailable in Turkey. By combining anthropology of secrecy with feminist studies of assisted reproductive technologies, it is argued that these disguised travels constitute a discursive and geographical space at the margins of, but fully integral to, Turkish reproductive biopolitics, in which secrecy is essential to diverse actors (including couples, egg donors, clinics, and the Turkish state) for multiple reasons.

Su Gender, in collaboration with Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Women’s Studies Research Center, hosted the feminist writer, theorist and professor Cynthia Enloe from Clark University, an internationally renowned academician for her work on gender and militarism as well as for her significant contributions to the field of feminist international relations. In her talk she gave at Karakoy Minerva Palas, Enloe said, “Women’s rights are human rights and human rights are women’s rights.”
