Gökçesu Özgül

As of January 2024, Gökçesu Özgül has been working as the Education Coordinator at SU Gender. After graduating from the Faculty of Law, she completed her master’s degree in Private Law at Galatasaray University, focusing on the implementation of Law No. 6284 on the Protection of the Family and Prevention of Violence Against Women and protective measures. She has worked as a coordinator in civil society organizations, organized training programs on political participation, leadership, and labor for women’s groups, conducted training of trainers, and delivered educational sessions.

Ayşe Betül Çelik

Ayşe Betül Çelik received her Ph.D. in political science from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 2002 and is a full Professor at Sabanci University in Istanbul, Turkey. She teaches political science and conflict resolution. She is an expert on ethnic conflict, reconciliation, dialogue, forced migration, peace processes and gender and peacebuilding.  She has several articles and a co-authored book on Turkey’s Kurdish Question, forced Kurdish migration and role of NGOs in the conflict. She also teaches gender awareness to high school teachers in several cities in Turkey.

Meriç Çağlar

Meriç Çağlar holds a BA degree in International Relations from Galatasaray University and MA degrees in Euro-Mediterranean Relations and Migration Management respectively from Rovira i Virgili and Pompeu Fabra Universities.Meriç (a.b.d.) completed her doctoral program in Gender Studies at Central European University in 2022. Her research interests lie in the areas of forced migration, gender and intersectionality, humanitarian aid and protection systems, and disaster management.

Zehra Akçay

Zehra works as an administrative affairs specialist at the Sabancı University Gender and Women's Studies Excellence Center (SU Gender). Zehra graduated from Kocaeli University's Department of Political Science and Public Administration. As a feminist activist, she volunteers with civil society organizations in Turkey that focus on gender issues.

Melda Çele

Melda Çele is the Executive Director of UN Global Compact Türkiye. Established in 2000 by the then Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, UN Global Compact is an initiative aimed at aligning the operations and strategies of businesses with 10 universal principles in the areas of human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption. It also encourages companies to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their core business strategies and operations.

Hülya Şimga

Hülya Şimga completed her undergraduate degree in philosophy at Boğaziçi University and her master's and doctorate degrees at Duquesne University in the United States. She currently serves as a lecturer in the Department of Sociology at Antalya Belek University, as well as the vice rector in charge of academic affairs. She is a member of the Turkish Philosophical Institution, the Board of Directors of the Kuçuradi Philosophy and Human Rights Foundation and the Gender Committee of the International Federation of Philosophical Societies (FISP).

Dilek Cindoğlu

As a sociologist, Dr. Dilek Cindoğlu studies the gendered nature of health, labor markets, politics, migration, and sexuality in Türkiye, with broader global implications. She has published on virginity surgeries, C-sections, political sex scandals, and labor market discrimination. She is a professor of sociology at Yasar University, İzmir.

Cenk Özbay

Cenk Özbay has been an associate professor of sociology and gender studies at Sabanci University’ Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences since 2016. They received their B.A. and M.A. degrees from Boğaziçi University and their Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Southern California. Their research and teaching focuses on gender and sexuality, masculinities, the body, cities, culture, and neoliberalism. They have published extensively in national and international academic journals.

Ayfer Bartu Candan

Ayfer Bartu Candan is the Reserach Coordinator at the Hrant Dink Foundation. She got her B.A degree from the Sociology and the Psychology departments at the same university in 1990, and got her M.A and Ph.D degrees from the Anthropology Department at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1997. Before Boğaziçi, she taught at Boğaziçi University, Koç University in Turkey, and at the UC Berkeley and Stanford University in the USA.

Esin Düzel

Dr. Esin Düzel is a Project Specialist for the Horizon2020 project ACCTING (Advancing Behavioral Change through an Inclusive Green Deal), and gender equality trainer at Purple Certificate and ProGender+ programs. She received her PhD in Anthropology from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), MA in Comparative Studies from the Ohio State University, and BA in Cultural Studies from Sabanci University. Her work focuses on space and morality in conflicts, feminist peace, and future studies (with a focus on utopias and climate crisis).
